International Women’s Day is an event which everyone here at Terraqua Environmental Solutions (TES) finds incredibly inspiring. This global celebration highlights the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, promoting gender equality across the world. As a close-knit team here at TES, acceptance is at the core of our very being; we are therefore keen supporters of this cause.
We are proud to say that 50% of the TES team is female. As the construction industry has been found to generally under represent women (studies suggest that only one in eight construction workers are women) we take pride in the fact that TES is helping to drive change. We encourage all of our staff, gender regardless, to pursue their interests and any opportunities for professional growth. From training schemes to promotions and positive customer feedback, we recognise the achievements of every TES team member.
For example, Lynn Puttock, our General Manager, has worked in the water and environmental industry for over 31 years and has become a shining example of an exceptionally talented and successful woman within our field. She has now been managing TES for several years, as she continues to embody all that International Women’s Day represents.
Lynn’s extensive knowledge of habitat creation for water voles and newts, and the environments in which our coir rolls and marginal and aquatic plants are used, makes her an invaluable member of the team. Discussing her career development and the importance of International Women’s Day, Lynn says:
International Women’s Day is a powerful event which I value enormously. As a woman working in a typically male-dominated industry, I have never experienced limitations due to my gender. Thankfully, I have always been surrounded by supportive colleagues and have enjoyed a successful career with consistent development opportunities.
Working with TES has been a highlight of my career. The entire team is passionate about equality and diversity, nurturing a group of talented experts who encourage one another’s mutual success. As a leader, I am now passionate about encouraging young women to pursue careers within the industry. The environmental sector is on the cusp of exciting change so there’s never been a better time to join us!
The women behind TES all get satisfaction from delivering complex projects in a world which is often viewed to be male-dominated. We stand alongside every woman and collaboratively work to showcase our team’s abilities and accomplishments. Ultimately, we are a welcoming team who deliver an exceptional standard of service.
Jill Green, Biodiversity Projects, is proud of TES’ commitment to equality:
“Embracing an equal team is something every business should do, without a doubt. Here at TES, gender is never a part of the equation – half of our team is female, and the men who work with TES are equally committed to the gender equality movement. Women, like men, can achieve anything we set our minds to.”
TES looks forward to celebrating International Women’s Day and will continue to promote its message throughout 2020. We are excited to witness the inevitable, continued achievements of our female employees throughout the year as we await a busy and exciting few months.
