Terraqua use Pre Planted Coir Rolls to assist Hadley Wood manage storm water
Hadley Wood is a superbly designed golf course, with excellent clubhouse facilities, all set in a beautiful parkland location that is only 30 minutes from London. The 18 hole par 72 course was laid out by Dr Alister MacKenzie, the world renowned golf course Architect and designer of Augusta National, home of The Masters, and has been described as “An absolute gem.” by Golf World.

Head groundsman Simon Grant, responsible for course maintenance, explained that one of the courses storm drainage channels was in need of restoration. During the winter months, when rainfall is high, the channel was susceptible to ‘flashy’ floods, over time quick moving water had undermined and eroded the original bank causing one side of the channel to collapse. After a visit it was decided to remove the old timber structure, regrade the bank, slightly widen the channel and install established pre-planted coir rolls to the full length of the channel, the slope was to be regraded down to approximately 30°, 200mm of seeded top-soil was to be placed on top of the existing clay substrate to form the new slope. A 100% coir erosion control blanket was then to be installed; this product protects the slope from erosion, promotes growth of new grasses and provides protection to the system until spring when new grasses will cover the newel formed bank.
Six months later the Coir Rolls are established and the new grass has taken hold. Simon Grant commented “The Seed has already grown through nicely and the channel is now performing, needed too as we’ve had 60mm of rain in the last 7 days! We were very happy with the products; and the support from Terraqua throughout the process and will certainly be using the system again in the future”.
