Is it Spring yet?

Although it may feel a long way off Spring is just around the corner.  In our nursery in Surrey we can see new growth emerging on a range of marginal species and even on submerged water lilies.

If you have a pond yourself, now is a great time to carry out a little cosmetic cleaning up by removing dead leaves and seed heads. This will allow light into the canopy and encourage new growth.

It’s a good time to think about adding new plantings and possibly some oxygenating plants.

Plants that colonise the water edges such as Mentha aquatica or Myosotis scorpoides can be planted shortly and aid the formation of habitats for fish and invertebrates.
