Lythrum salicaria
(Purple Loosestrife)
Upright perennial of damp habitats found chiefly along river banks often in shallow still or slow moving fresh water. The flowers are in tall spikes of reddish purple and are long lasting and up to 1.5 m in height. Usually seen June to August. One of the most ‘garden of our native marginals.
